Russia takes out a big fish: female colonel directly under President Zelenskyy, responsible for connections with Europe and the U.S., killed in explosion on the spot

On July 24, an open-air exhibition in Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, was underway, showcasing drones and military equipment. As the event progressed, Russian missiles roared in, followed by a powerful explosion. In this blast, Russia eliminated a major target. Valentina Savitska, deputy head of the International Cooperation and Strategic Communication Center at Ukraine's State Security Service, was killed on the spot. This news has now been confirmed by her husband. On the 26th, Kyiv held a memorial ceremony for the female colonel.

Why is the death of just one colonel considered such a significant loss?

Valentina’s role was exceptionally critical. She controlled all external security coordination channels for Ukraine, had access to extensive details about Western military attaches, arms aid logistics, and overseas intelligence cooperation. She participated in planning security arrangements for high-level officials from all Western countries visiting Ukraine and directly held information on the travel schedules of senior Western figures operating in Ukraine. She reported directly to President Zelenskyy and was among his most trusted confidants.

Her death dealt a severe blow to the communication channels between Ukraine and the West. In addition, on that day, other Ukrainian high-ranking officials were also killed, including a colonel formerly in charge of Ukraine's Alpha Special Forces unit, as well as several engineers and intelligence personnel responsible for core drone research and development. Furthermore, it is highly likely that some Western senior officials were present at the scene—whether they were killed or injured remains unknown. Currently, Ukrainian authorities are maintaining extremely high levels of secrecy regarding specific casualties.

However, one thing is certain: Russia’s missile strike undoubtedly inflicted substantial damage.
