Media Report: A stem cell therapy study for heart failure conducted by Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, affiliated with Nanjing University, has achieved groundbreaking progress, with long-term follow-up results from its Phase 2 clinical trial published in Nature Medicine.
The research team used cardiomyocytes derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to treat patients with severe heart failure. At the 12-month follow-up, 90% of participants showed significantly improved cardiac function compared to the control group.
This therapy can help regenerate new muscle tissue in aging or damaged hearts and restore function, offering new hope for end-stage heart disease patients who face a critical shortage of donor hearts.
