Foreign Media: As geopolitical and economic competition intensifies, Western governments and financial institutions are increasingly avoiding infrastructure projects involving Chinese participation. However, the Nairobi Railway City project in Kenya stands out as a rare exception.

The project is financed by the United Kingdom and supported technically by British consultants, with construction carried out by Chinese contractors. The collaboration aims to create a large-scale public transportation hub for Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

The core components include a newly built central railway station and a 172-hectare (425-acre) mixed-use zone encompassing commercial, residential, and industrial areas. The design follows the model of London’s King's Cross transport interchange, led by the UK-based company AtkinsRealis. The UK Export Finance agency is exploring financing support, while the Kenyan government and railway authority are overseeing the procurement process—offering a potential blueprint for cooperation between Chinese and Western enterprises in Africa.
