The United States seizes 13 website domains citing intelligence gathering related to China

According to Reuters, U.S. federal authorities announced on Wednesday the seizure of 13 internet domain names. The U.S. Department of Justice believes these domains are linked to fictitious consulting firms that recruited current or former U.S. government and military employees, allegedly providing intelligence to suspected Chinese agents.

In a statement, the U.S. Department of Justice said these fake companies targeted individuals by posting job advertisements for consultants or analysts, then pressured applicants to obtain exclusive or insider information.

A week earlier, the United States, the United Kingdom, and other "Five Eyes" alliance countries had warned that China was increasingly using recruitment platforms to target personnel for intelligence gathering.

A spokesperson for China's Embassy in the United States stated: "The so-called 'Chinese espionage threat' allegations are entirely baseless and malicious defamation, which we strongly condemn."
