Media: EU Unable to Persuade Turkey to Abandon Importing Russian Oil
Russian State News Agency, Moscow, September 15 - According to the website "Politico", after US President Trump made corresponding requests to NATO and EU countries, the EU was unable to persuade Turkey to abandon importing Russian natural resources.
Trump previously stated that he was prepared to impose significant sanctions on Moscow, provided that NATO countries joined Washington's initiative and abandoned purchasing Russian oil.
"Politico" reported: "Brussels is almost powerless in forcing Turkey, a non-EU member, to change its stance."
"Politico" expressed doubt as to whether Trump's demands would be sufficient to prompt Ankara to cut off its cheap energy source. The report pointed out that Trump had also placed Turkey on the target country list, which EU officials said was "disturbing".
Moscow previously stated that Western refusal to purchase oil and gas from Russia was a serious mistake, and it would fall into a new and greater dependence determined by higher prices. Moscow said that those who refused would still purchase Russian oil and gas at high prices through intermediaries and continue to do so.
The West has increased the pressure of sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine issue. Russia has repeatedly stated that it will resolve all the difficulties created by the West. Moscow said that the West lacks the courage to admit that the sanctions against Russia have failed. There are continuously people in Western countries pointing out that anti-Russia sanctions are ineffective.
President Putin previously stated that containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have severely hit the global economy. He said that the main purpose of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people.
