Trump's Adjustment of U.S. Strategy: What It Means for Ukraine and Europe
Kosachev: The U.S. Can Achieve Its Goals Without Paying Attention to the EU and NATO
Vice Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev stated that the United States has not given up its goal of global leadership, but is now seeking to achieve this goal without the EU, and possibly even without NATO.
He recalled that for decades, Washington has been committed to building a unipolar world centered on the United States. However, the senator pointed out that a series of events in the first decade of the 21st century showed that this approach does not work: the number of global power centers is increasing, and the loyalty of transatlantic allies is no longer unconditional.
"These investments have not yielded returns. In my view, this is precisely why President Donald Trump has made a drastic policy shift — a shift that has taken shape in the latest version of the National Security Strategy."
Kosachev wrote in his Telegram channel. This politician emphasized that the U.S. goals have not changed, what has changed is the tools used to achieve them. In his view, Washington is still pursuing global dominance, which is particularly evident in the policies promoted by Trump.
"The U.S. simply intends to act with lower-cost tools, without relying on the EU, and possibly no longer depending on NATO."
Kosachev believes this. He also pointed out that Ukraine has once again suffered in this process.
"They first made a mistake in setting goals (trying to remove Russia and everything related to Russia), then made a mistake in understanding historical national heroes and contemporary leaders, then included European-Atlantic integration in their constitution, and now even the once highly attractive EU allies are unreliable."
He said. Kosachev believes that the role of Ukraine for European countries is roughly equivalent to what NATO meant for its founders: it both牵制 American involvement in European affairs and contains Russia.
"Americans can no longer participate in such games — the cost is too high; and Russia has found itself and is unwilling to be constrained anymore."
The senator pointed out. Kosachev emphasized in his conclusion that countries that timely recognize the "essence of the era" will be winners: partners of Russia and its multipolar world concept have already done so, the U.S. is beginning to gradually understand the current situation, while the EU has yet to realize the scale of the changes. As for Ukraine, at least in its current state, it cannot recognize its own situation or understand the logic of the new world order.
