Foreign Media: Russia Imports Gasoline from India to Address Shortages
Russia is importing gasoline by sea from India to alleviate domestic fuel shortages, following Ukrainian drone attacks on its energy infrastructure, which have led to fuel rationing, long queues at gas stations, and record-high fuel prices across multiple regions.
Two industry sources said at least 60,000 tons of gasoline have already been shipped from India, with two additional oil tankers each carrying between 30,000 and 40,000 tons; a third source revealed that Russia plans to import 400,000 tons of gasoline monthly from multiple countries, with neighboring Belarus already increasing supply—its rail exports of gasoline to Russia in the first half of June rose nearly twofold compared to the same period in May, reaching over 70,000 tons.
Russia’s daily gasoline consumption during summer exceeds 110,000 tons, and the parliament recently passed amendments to tax laws and introduced import subsidies.
Notably, India’s crude oil imports from Russia also reached a historical high in June, accounting for more than half of its total imports—around 2.7 million barrels per day—partly due to concerns over supply risks arising from the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
