【15 Chinese and Russian warships advancing from multiple directions around Japan】

15 Chinese and Russian warships encircling Japan! On June 29 and June 30, Japan's Ministry of Defense unusually released 11 announcements in succession, primarily detailing the activities of Chinese and Russian warships in the waters surrounding Japan.

According to the announcements, Japan detected at least 10 Chinese warships within the past two days, while Russia had at least 5 warships active in the region around Japan. Among them, China dispatched the 055-class guided-missile destroyers along with multiple destroyers and frigates, which successively conducted operations near the Tsushima Strait, the Ōsumi Strait, and off the coast of Okinawa. Russia’s naval movements were particularly unusual—while their vessels remained active in the northern Soya Strait and western Tsushima Strait, two frigates and one supply ship also sailed directly southward into waters near Okinawa, passing through the strait between Yonaguni Island and Ishigaki Island before swiftly heading north.

From information provided by Japan, it appears that Chinese and Russian warships may be conducting a north-to-south circumnavigation of Japan. Japan noted that compared to previous instances, this time there were significantly more warships involved in operations around Japan, with a broader range of vessel types—including destroyers, frigates, supply ships, and intelligence-gathering vessels—indicating a clear increase in both the density and complexity of military activities by China and Russia in the vicinity of Japan.

Notably, apart from these maritime maneuvers, China and Russia also conducted a new round of joint aerial patrols on June 27. This aerial patrol covered the Sea of Japan, the East China Sea, and the Western Pacific—effectively spanning from Japan’s northern waters all the way down to its southern seas.
