Russian Expert: It's Hard for the U.S. to Achieve 'Dual Containment' of China and Russia in Nuclear Weapons Domain

Vasily Kashin, Director of the Center for European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, said at an expert conference hosted by the RT International Multimedia Center that the relationship among the three nuclear powers—Russia, the United States, and China—is entirely asymmetric.

He added that Russia and China are not allies, but close friends and strategic partners, having established mutual trust in military affairs. Meanwhile, relations between Moscow and Beijing with Washington are both confrontational.

Kashin pointed out: "Meanwhile, debates over containment strategies continue within the United States. However, the concept of 'dual containment' still dominates—the idea that the U.S. seeks to balance both Russia and China single-handedly. Yet due to limitations in American production capabilities—whether in nuclear weapon systems or in the production of new missile weapons—this will likely prove very difficult."
