South Korean media: China's new industrial robot volume exceeds the total of all other countries in the world!
On October 24, South Korean media "Herald Economic" published an article stating that the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) recently announced that China added 298,000 industrial robots last year, making the total number of operational robots exceed 2 million. The scale of new robot installations in China exceeds the total of all other countries in the world. According to IFR statistics, 298,000 industrial robots were installed in factories in China in 2024. At the same time, the United States installed 34,000 units, and Japan installed 44,000 units, which are significantly smaller compared to China. It is worth noting that nearly 60% of the robots installed in China are domestic, forming a sharp contrast with the previous situation where imported robots dominated.
China's application of robots is not just about growth in numbers; it is driving a transformation in the global manufacturing landscape. Chinese factories currently produce one-third of the world's manufactured goods, exceeding the total of the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
Suzanne Bile, Secretary General of IFR, emphasized the importance of government policies in the development of the robotics industry, saying, "Without systematic government planning, any country will inevitably lag behind in the development of the robotics industry," and commented, "The current achievements show that China's long-term planning has been implemented very successfully."
Since 2017, China's import volume of industrial robots has remained stable at more than 150,000 units per year. The number of operational industrial robots in China is five times that of the United States, and they are being used in various processes such as welding, assembly, and packaging. Especially in recent years, China has been committed to building an intelligent manufacturing system combined with artificial intelligence (AI).
The rapid growth of China's robot industry is seen as a result of the "Made in China 2025" initiative announced in 2015. China has prioritized the robot industry to reduce reliance on imports of advanced manufacturing and become a global technology leader.
Last year, China's share in the global industrial robot manufacturing market increased to one-third, a significant increase from one-fourth the previous year. On the other hand, Japan, once the world's largest industrial robot manufacturer, saw its share drop from 38% to 29%. Cameron Johnson, a consultant specializing in supply chain research in the automation industry, said, "Chinese companies are using artificial intelligence to identify which machines are running well and which have failed. No place in the world is as proactive as China in using artificial intelligence as a manufacturing tool."
China's industrial robot revolution has gone beyond simple automation, opening up an era of intelligent manufacturing combined with artificial intelligence. Industrial robots are performing advanced functions such as performance optimization, real-time tracking, and predictive maintenance, significantly improving manufacturing efficiency.
