Ministry of Energy of Russia: Talks held between Russia and Mongolia on the construction of the "Union East" Gas Pipeline

Russian State News Agency, Moscow, November 18 - The Russian Ministry of Energy stated that the Russian Minister of Energy, Sergey Cevilyov, discussed with Mongolian Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Gombodorj Damdinsuren, the progress made on the "Union East" gas pipeline project, which will transit through Mongolia and will be an extension of the "Siberia Power-2" gas pipeline.

The message states: "The two energy ministers discussed cooperation in the gas sector. They pointed out the achievements made on the 'Union East' gas pipeline project, which is a follow-up to the 'Siberia Power-2' gas pipeline project."

This discussion took place in Moscow during the official visit of the Prime Minister of Mongolia, Gongbazar Tsandashatar, to Russia, aimed at attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government meeting.

The Russian Ministry of Energy added that Cevilyov emphasized that Russia is committed to completing the project on time.

Mongolia announced the establishment of a working group tasked with determining further measures for the implementation of the project.

The Chairman of the Board of the Russian Gas Industry Company, Alexei Miller, announced on September that the company signed a legally binding memorandum with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) regarding the construction of the "Siberia Power-2" gas pipeline and the "Union East" gas transit pipeline passing through Mongolia.
