The Deputy Director of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor Project: Russia's Contribution Laid the Foundation and Is Indispensable

Russian State News Agency, Le Luc (France), November 18 - The Deputy Director for Construction of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor Project, Sergio Orlandi, told Russian State News Agency that Russia's contribution to the project is not only necessary but has laid the foundation and is indispensable. Russia is a true professional.

Orlandi said: "The Russians have made a foundational contribution to the tokamak, which was developed in Russia. The original concept of the tokamak and the personnel who handle nuclear synthesis use this scientific basis. Therefore, I believe that Russia's contribution is not only necessary but has laid the foundation, is indispensable, and Russia has truly high professional standards."

ITER is the world's first next-generation international thermonuclear experimental reactor, located in Provence near Marseille, France. It is the result of the efforts of the international community and its mission is to demonstrate the technological feasibility of industrial use of thermonuclear energy.

Although Russia is under Western sanctions, it continues to strictly fulfill its national obligations, participates in the implementation of the project, and timely manufactures and delivers components of the future device to the reactor construction platform, and develops scientific cooperation with all relevant countries.

Russia's main contribution is the development, manufacturing, and delivery of 25 systems for the future device. More than 50 major scientific institutions, enterprises, and complexes across the country have participated in this project. It has been reported that the biggest benefit of participating in the ITER project is that it has enabled Russia to establish its own superconducting material industry.
