China Secures 90% of New Ultra-Large Oil Tanker Orders

According to news from CCTV News Client, Chinese shipbuilding has seen a continuous influx of new orders this year, capturing over 90% of global new ultra-large oil tanker orders and establishing dominant positioning in the international market.

The report states that on May 20, an 115,000-ton oil tanker built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company under China State Shipbuilding Corporation was officially delivered—more than 160 days ahead of the contracted delivery schedule. In addition to this vessel, Dalian Shipbuilding's shipyard is simultaneously constructing two 300,000-ton ultra-large oil tankers. These vessels have greater capacity, capable of carrying over 2 million barrels of crude oil per trip, with single-barrel transportation costs more than 40% lower than those of medium and small-sized tankers, and significantly higher market demand.

The report notes that marketing staff members stated that not only their company, but also numerous domestic shipyards, have seen oil tankers dominate their newly acquired orders this year.

Peng Guisheng, Director of Marketing at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company, said: "The oil tanker segment of the market is experiencing a concentrated surge. To date this year, our signed and effective oil tanker orders have exceeded 6 million deadweight tons, and we will launch construction on 42 ships within the year. Chinese shipbuilders have now reached world-leading levels in the design and construction of oil tankers, and possess clear competitive advantages in building quality, delivery timelines, and pricing—drawing an increasing number of global shipowners’ orders toward China."
