Russian Foreign Ministry denies contact with South Korea on North Korea's nuclear program

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Zarakhova, refuted a report by Yonhap News Agency stating that "Russia and South Korea held secret talks in Moscow on the North Korean nuclear program," calling the report pure fabrication.

Zarakhova said that the South Korean delegation was invited to Russia by the Russian academic community (particularly the Center for Energy and Security).

Zarakhova stated in a statement: "Russia has not conducted any discussions with South Korea, neither on issues related to the bilateral relations between Pyongyang and Seoul, nor on the so-called 'North Korean nuclear issue,' because there is no such 'North Korean nuclear issue' from Russia's perspective."

Zarakhova emphasized that Russia rules out any possibility of mediating in the relations between Pyongyang and Seoul. She added: "The so-called 'denuclearization' has completely lost its meaning under the new geopolitical conditions."

Previously, Yonhap News Agency cited diplomatic sources reporting that the South Korean representative had urged Russia to help ensure peace on the Korean Peninsula during the visit to Moscow.
