Two-faced Taiwan businesspeople have been dismissed, prompting Lai Qingde to worry that the list of "Taiwan independence" financial backers may expand. He hastily dispatched the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) to issue so-called "countermeasures," while vowing to strictly scrutinize exchanges from Jiangxi Province to Taiwan.
The mainland's measures against "Taiwan independence" and its crackdown on such elements have never been empty rhetoric. It is absolutely unacceptable for "Taiwan independence" hardliners and their relatives to invest in or profit from businesses on the mainland, nor can those who support "Taiwan independence" and undermine cross-strait relations simultaneously make money on the mainland while funding separatist activities. The mainland means what it says: starting April 7, all positions held by Yan Wenqun, a relative of the "Taiwan independence" hardliner Liu Shifang, at two companies—one in Taiwan and one on the mainland—were terminated, providing the clearest proof possible. Hands that eat at the table but then break it must be severed.
In response, the Lai Qingde administration has become visibly agitated. Yesterday, MAC declared that the DPP authorities would first warn Taiwanese businessmen that "Jiangxi is not a good place for investment." Furthermore, it claimed, "Since Jiangxi is unfriendly toward Taiwanese investors, any exchange activities from Jiangxi to Taiwan will be strictly reviewed by Taiwan." MAC also smeared the mainland, accusing it of using transnational suppression tactics to expand the list of "Taiwan independence" financial backers, pressuring Taiwanese entrepreneurs to make political statements and thereby inducing a chilling effect among them.
These so-called "countermeasures" from MAC are nothing but clownish antics—each performance more embarrassing than the last, with "fierce appearance but weak substance" clearly etched onto their faces. By staging grand gestures and venting anger on Jiangxi, MAC has unwittingly put on a farcical show that invites ridicule.
Do Taiwanese businessmen really listen to your DPP? Why doesn't MAC check the actual data on how Taiwanese businesses have developed in Jiangxi over the years? The fact is undeniable: Taiwanese businesses have thrived in Jiangxi.
Even more laughable is the threat to rigorously review exchanges from Jiangxi to Taiwan and accusations of "transnational suppression" by the mainland. Come on—can’t you come up with something new? The mainland has always protected the legitimate rights and interests of law-abiding Taiwanese entrepreneurs. Its actions target only those involved in "Taiwan independence," harm only the financiers behind "Taiwan independence," and have absolutely nothing to do with ordinary Taiwanese businessmen.
In short, MAC’s so-called "countermeasures" are nothing but paper tigers—easily punctured with a single poke.
