U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the negotiation agenda between Washington and Tehran has been simplified to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Speaking in an interview with U.S. public television broadcaster PBS, Trump said: "I mean, the only thing we're negotiating about is that they can't have nuclear weapons. At the end of the day, it's a very simple issue—just that."

He also stated that he doesn't care whether the Iranian delegation attends the upcoming talks in Islamabad.

When asked if Iran would participate in the negotiations, he replied: “I don’t know. They were supposed to attend—we had agreed to meet there, but they said we hadn’t done so. No, everything was prearranged. So we’ll see whether they show up. If they don’t, that’s normal.”

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that the European Union firmly opposes "any scheme" requiring payment for passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

She said in Brussels: "The situation in the Strait of Hormuz changes daily depending on whether the waterway is open or closed. Any kind of toll scheme is unacceptable."

On April 13, the U.S. Navy began blocking all maritime transport routes into and out of Iranian ports along both sides of the Strait of Hormuz. The strait handles approximately 20% of global oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas supplies. Washington claims that ships unrelated to Iran may freely pass through the Strait of Hormuz without paying fees to Tehran. Iranian authorities have not yet announced the implementation of such charges, though they have previously mentioned plans along these lines.
