Media outlet "News Index" analyzed public sentiment across multiple overseas and domestic Russian social networks, revealing that the primary concern among Russian internet users in 2026 is low income and soaring prices.
This analysis covers user posts, discussions, comments, and private messages from social platforms and instant messaging apps including VK, MAX, Telegram, YouTube, Rutube, Dzen, Pikabu, Reddit, TikTok, and X.
Frequency statistics of common online expressions: “My salary doesn’t last until next payday” was mentioned 588,000 times; followed by “working hard for meager pay” (202,000 times), “income is pitifully low” (154,000 times), and “prices are ridiculously high” (150,000 times).
Among all negative statements, 45.7% express complaints about low income and lack of money; another 17.8% voice dissatisfaction with rising prices and persistently high living costs. Internet users frequently use terms such as “ridiculously high,” “skyrocketing,” and “astronomical” to describe prices.
Other frequently discussed topics include utilities, services, credit, and healthcare. The most widely circulated phrases in this category: “power outage” (130,900 times), “shortage of doctors” (106,400 times), “long queues” (104,200 times), and “water cut-off” (80,000 times).
