Vietnam Daily: Vietnam reduces 25,611 civil servants, expected to save 19.05 trillion VND over the next five years
Vietnam Daily, July 12th report, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Home Affairs, as of June 30th, a total of 25,611 officials and public employees have received severance pay and resigned due to institutional streamlining, with a total amount of 269,470 billion VND, accounting for 63% of the total number of retirees and resignations during the same period, 43,207 people (excluding the military and police systems). The Ministry of Home Affairs evaluated the relevant retirement and resignation system as "strong and excellent." The central government of Vietnam had previously repeatedly required all departments to complete the payment of benefits for personnel who left due to institutional restructuring by June 30th. This reform merged 28 provinces and 6 central cities, as well as 3,321 urban and district administrative units, which is expected to reduce the provincial staffing by more than 18,400, the township-level staffing by 110,700, and part-time positions at the township level by 120,500. The Ministry of Home Affairs estimates that between 2026 and 2030, the total savings on salaries and administrative expenses due to the streamlining of provincial, township, and part-time positions will reach 190.5 trillion VND, of which 27.6 trillion VND will be saved at the provincial level, 128.7 trillion VND at the township level, and 34 trillion VND at the part-time positions.
