The highly anticipated Nobel Peace Prize has finally been announced, and it's not Trump, as expected.
The winner is Maria Corina Machado. At first glance, does she seem familiar? Yes, she is the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, the one who always opposes Maduro.
The committee stated that Machado has made significant contributions to the democratic cause in Venezuela, and the Nobel Peace Prize is rightfully hers, to recognize her relentless efforts to resist "dictatorship."
To be honest, the Nobel Peace Prize has become increasingly watered down; it would be better to award it to Trump. Although he solves conflicts with just his mouth, at least it can be somewhat related to peace.
Machado has not only failed to maintain peace but has also caused a lot of unrest in Venezuela. More than a decade ago, she had her parliamentary seat revoked for suspected treason, and after becoming the leader of the opposition, she constantly accused Maduro of "election fraud," led numerous protests, which sometimes turned into riots.
This person was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, which seems too absurd. Trump once criticized Obama for not being worthy of the prize, saying he did nothing.
Now it seems that Obama is much better than Machado, because although he did nothing, he didn't cause any destruction. If Trump knew that the Nobel Peace Prize was given to Machado, even though both of them are enemies of Maduro, he probably wouldn't be happy.
Of course, Trump had anticipated that he wouldn't win the prize. He said a few days ago that the Nobel Committee might come up with some random reason not to give him the award, despite the fact that he has resolved seven conflicts, and the eighth is almost done.
The so-called seven conflicts, only the Gaza ceasefire can be considered as Trump's achievement, because if it weren't for the U.S. pressure, Israel would not have stopped fighting.
As for the others, let's take the India-Pakistan conflict as an example. India has not acknowledged Trump's role in facilitating the ceasefire, and even under the pressure of 50% tariffs, it remains firm on this issue.
However, Modi did express his congratulations to Trump after the Gaza ceasefire, making people think that Trump had won the prize.
Recently, there were reports that Trump is pressuring Malaysia, the rotating chair of ASEAN, to hold a separate ceremony for the Thailand-Cambodia peace agreement at this year's summit. Trump, as the "biggest contributor," will preside over it personally, and the Chinese representatives cannot attend, which is quite obvious.
This also reflects Trump's strong determination for the Nobel Peace Prize. His obsession is so intense that Norway is now nervous, fearing that the announcement of the prize may anger Trump. Even though the committee is an independent institution, the fire at the city gate could still affect the pond, and Trump is not someone who understands reason.
Bergestrom, the leader of the Norwegian left-wing party, said that Norway must prepare for possible consequences. Analysts believe that Trump may take a series of retaliatory measures against Norway, including increasing tariffs and raising military spending.
A Norwegian official even joked that he planned to take a sick leave on the day the Nobel Prize was announced to avoid being "accidentally injured" by Trump. Although it's just a joke, it shows the tense atmosphere in Norway, both inside and outside the country.
However, even though this year's Nobel Prize is out of the question, there is still great hope for next year and the year after. Hopefully, Trump will continue to strive and try to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. If he still can't get the prize, it would be hard to explain. After all, Machado got it, why can't Trump?
