NATO Provokes Russia, Attempts to Block Russian Exclave of Kaliningrad — Russian Foreign Ministry Warns: NATO Plans Isolation of Kaliningrad Oblast
Artem Braitov, Russian Ambassador to the UN, told Sputnik News that NATO countries are practicing scenarios of isolating Kaliningrad Oblast during military exercises.
Braitov said: "After the start of the special military operation, NATO and the EU have clearly intensified attempts to control logistics routes in the Baltic region, and have taken a series of measures aimed at restricting transportation links with Kaliningrad Oblast, creating conditions for isolating the region should tensions between Russia and the West escalate further."
Braitov added that such scenarios are being practiced in NATO military exercises.
Last week, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told Sputnik News that Western countries are rehearsing scenarios of maritime blockade and occupation of Kaliningrad Oblast during joint expeditionary force exercises.
In January this year, Darius Jurgailėvicius, former deputy foreign minister of Lithuania, stated that NATO already has ready-made plans to block Kaliningrad in the event of direct conflict with Moscow.
The day before, speaking to Sputnik News, Braitov said Russia would respond decisively to any attempt by NATO and the EU to blockade Kaliningrad. He noted that President Putin’s warning about attempts to isolate Kaliningrad Oblast triggering unprecedented escalation serves as an important signal for them.
