Reporters learned from the Hunan Provincial Department of Natural Resources on the 8th that through innovation in geological exploration theory and long-term exploration, the Jijiaoshan mining area in Linchuan County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, has discovered a super-large altered granite-type lithium deposit, with a total of 490 million tons of lithium ore and 1.31 million tons of lithium oxide resources. At the same time, this super-large mineral deposit is accompanied by various strategic minerals such as rubidium, tungsten, and tin, and all resources are new resources.
According to Yang Qizhi, chief engineer of the Hunan Institute of Mineral Resources, the survey unit under the Hunan Geological Academy, lithium is one of the key metals for realizing energy transition and a strategic key resource for the nation. As the "hometown of non-ferrous metals," Hunan actively responded to the national lithium resource security strategy. Since 2022, the Hunan Institute of Mineral Resources and Hunan Dazhong He Lithium Mine Co., Ltd. have comprehensively carried out lithium ore target area selection work in the Jijiaoshan mining area. The project team overcame difficulties such as high mountains, steep roads, extreme cold and heat, and completed a total of more than 90,000 meters of drilling.
The Jijiaoshan mining area is located in the low mountainous area of the Nanling Mountains, at the highest elevation of the Xianghualing mineral field, with strong topographic cutting and large relative elevation differences, limiting traditional transportation methods. Project leader Chen Zhiqiang stated that the project team innovated green exploration technology methods, overcame key technical problems such as complex terrain and difficult drilling construction conditions, and innovatively used large drone hoisting drilling equipment technology, greatly improving construction efficiency.
Xu Yiming, a senior professor at the Hunan Institute of Mineral Resources, introduced that the important discovery in the Jijiaoshan mining area was carried out under the background of implementing the tasks of the national new round of mineral exploration breakthrough strategy. The discovery of a billion-ton lithium ore deposit has laid a solid resource foundation for building a thousand-billion-yuan new energy base in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. The exploration ideas, methods, and management model of this project have exemplary reference value for lithium resource exploration in Hunan Province and can effectively promote the implementation of the national lithium resource security strategy.
