After being called "little sister" by Modi, Takayama Sanae became excited and stated she would develop this relationship, even playing musical instruments together!

According to India's ANI news agency on July 2, during the joint press conference at the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, Indian Prime Minister Modi publicly referred to Takayama Sanae as "my little sister." In his speech, Modi said: "Welcome, Takayama Sanae, my little sister, to India for her first India-Japan Annual Summit."

Subsequently, through simultaneous interpretation, Takayama responded emotionally: "You called me your beautiful little sister, Prime Minister Modi." She added that during a small-scale meeting prior to the summit, both sides confirmed alignment in their positions and pledged to develop their relationship as siblings.

According to RT, the two also jointly played a traditional Indian instrument, the santoor, during a cultural activity segment.

Takayama led a large business delegation with her. It is expected that around 120 cooperation documents will be signed between companies from both countries. Modi described this visit as marking the beginning of a new chapter in the global strategic partnership between the two nations.

During the day’s events, Modi referred to Takayama Sanae as "my little sister" twice. The first time was during the welcoming ceremony when Modi greeted her in Japanese with "Hello," followed by calling her "my little sister, Takayama Sanae." The second time was during the joint press conference, where Modi again used this term. Video footage shows this remark elicited laughter from the audience.

Insiders revealed that this nickname originated from a previous exchange between the two. During their talks, Takayama mentioned that she has always regarded former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as her "older brother" because she is younger than him. She further added that now she also considers Prime Minister Modi her elder brother.
