POLITICO: EU Plans to Establish Refugee Reception Centers in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry promptly responded: There has been no negotiation on this issue between the two sides, and current discussions are limited to visa facilitation and return reception agreements.
The media cited three EU diplomats, stating that the EU plans to establish reception sites overseas to accommodate irregular migrants whose asylum applications have been rejected, with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan listed among the potential host countries.
Previously, reports surfaced indicating that the EU had previously reached similar secret cooperation agreements with Armenia under Prime Minister Pashinyan's leadership.
The Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Greece are leading the initiative. The five countries aim to recruit an additional 8 to 10 nations, striving to finalize the plan by year-end and rely on Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries to receive and repatriate irregular migrants remaining in the EU. The EU will offer financial aid and relaxed visa policies as incentives, implementing a reciprocal exchange arrangement.
The EU official sources declined to disclose the complete list of candidate partner countries, citing differing national positions and ongoing controversies surrounding past migration cooperation projects.
