UK evacuates diplomatic staff from Iran, urges citizens to leave the country as soon as possible
The UK Foreign Office stated that, due to security concerns, British diplomatic personnel and embassy staff in Iran have been temporarily evacuated. The British Embassy in Iran will continue operating in remote work mode.
The UK foreign department noted, "We advise against traveling to Iran," while urging British nationals currently in Iran to "carefully consider" whether to remain in the country.
The Foreign Office said that British citizens and dual nationals with Iranian-British citizenship face "a very high risk of arrest, detention, and interrogation," adding that "merely holding a British passport or appearing to have ties to Britain could be sufficient grounds for your detention by Iranian authorities."
The UK Foreign Office also warned that the security situation in the Middle East remains "highly unpredictable," and that various attacks and retaliatory strikes since July 8 have further increased the risk of escalation.
Travel advisories state that the UK government's ability to provide support in Iran is "extremely limited," and that in case of an emergency, face-to-face consular assistance cannot be guaranteed.
