India says India is ready to give up Russia's oil!
Russian Duma member responds: It will not cause significant problems.
July 18, Russian media such as Rossiya Segodnya published articles.
Indian Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated: If the US imposes sanctions, India is ready to turn to import oil from other countries and give up Russian oil.
He commented on President Donald Trump's threat: "I am not worried at all. If something happens, we will handle it well."
Puri pointed out that India has established cooperation with 40 suppliers, including Guyana, Brazil and Canada.
These countries have the capacity to compensate for possible supply reductions.
According to the data of the agency, by the first half of 2025, Russia remained the leading supplier of oil to India, supplying 35% of India's imported oil.
The main motivation for India to purchase Russian oil is still the significant discount offered under Western sanctions.
A member of the State Duma said that India's refusal to buy Russian oil will not cause significant problems for Moscow.
The member said that the country will readjust within two to three months.
If India decides to stop buying Russian oil, Russia will face some difficulties, but these can be avoided by readjusting the export volume, the politician added.
Netizen Alexey Nekrasov said: India has always been a very unreliable partner.
Irina Gaidengor expressed concern: ... How long can China last?
