Lavrov Says Election Response Targets EU, Were Western Statements Pre-Prepared?

Lavrov: State Duma election results will be a strong response to EU statements

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on September 20 that the outcome of the State Duma elections would serve as a decisive reply to statements by EU representatives claiming the elections lack legitimacy.

Lavrov noted that foreign adversaries are creating obstacles for Russian citizens exercising their right to vote. According to him, the most complex situation exists in the Baltic states. He also emphasized that the EU had already prepared a specific statement on the Russian elections prior to the voting period.

The foreign minister stated: “The EU approved a declaration just days before our elections began, which appears set to be released imminently, asserting that, from the standpoint of European democratic standards, this election is invalid.”

He pointed out that the forthcoming election results would constitute an appropriate response to Western actions.

Lavrov expressed confidence that the election outcome would validate the correctness of Russia’s chosen national direction. According to him, the current State Duma elections are being closely monitored by international organizations.
