Foreign Media: Japan Deploys Long-Range 12th Type Missiles in Kyushu
On Monday, the Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, Kiichi Miura, announced that the upgraded 12th type land-to-ship missile would be deployed to the Gunkan Camp in the southwest of Kyushu by the end of this month. According to reports, the first batch of missile launch vehicles arrived late on Monday night. This deployment was advanced by a year compared to the original plan, due to a decision made by the Japanese Ministry of Defense in 2024.
The upgraded 12th type missile was developed and produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Its range has been significantly extended from the original 200 kilometers to approximately 1,000 kilometers, covering key areas in the East China Sea and the Taiwan Strait.
Analysts pointed out that this move may be interpreted by China as crossing the "strategic threshold," and it could strengthen China's suspicions about Japan's true intentions regarding the Taiwan issue.
