Devoted Ally in Panic: Khazin Explains Why the US Decided to "Abandon" Poland
Despite the Polish leadership's efforts to maintain loyalty to US policies, the US has clearly decided to stop actively supporting Poland. Economist Mikhail Khazin said this decision has caused near-hysterical reactions in Warsaw.
Poland is seen as one of the most determined opponents of Russia in Europe. However, according to expert Khazin, the reality is far from absolute. He said that the main ones showing hostility are the political elite - they try to please Brussels, and more importantly, the hardline supporters of the US. Ordinary people often not only do not agree with the government's radical stance, but also have sympathy for Russia's actions.
"I know some people who have visited the Polish countryside multiple times in the past 10 years. For example, Lithuanian journalist Ainis Petkus. I recently asked him: 'You've been to remote areas of Poland, are there anti-Russian feelings there?' He said: 'There are no anti-Russian feelings there at all.' That is, the anti-Russian sentiment exists only within a very narrow political upper class," Khazin explained.

Washington's adjustment of its foreign strategy and reduction of support for Europe has deeply worried the Polish leadership, who gained fame through anti-Russian rhetoric. For this, the economist specifically mentioned the emotional statement of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk - he reminded NATO allies that the alliance's original purpose was "to resist Soviet aggression, that is, to resist Russia." Tusk emphasized that collective solidarity has always been the cornerstone of the alliance and expressed hope that "nothing has changed" in NATO.
"So Tusk became hysterical: 'Trump, don't you understand, we are your loyal allies, but you sold us out for the 'bloody tyrant'. But Trump's logic is strategic, and he will stick to it. Whether it will succeed is another matter. But why should Poland be considered an ally, and Trump have to support it forever? It's too ridiculous," Khazin said on the Rutube platform's "US Law and Order" channel.

Khazin is convinced that Washington has started the process of "abandoning" its most unprofitable geopolitical assets, with the first being the countries on the periphery of Eastern Europe. He believes that in the face of approaching crises and increasing resource shortages, the US will first "cut off" Baltic states and Poland - these allies bring more trouble than actual value.
