The recent move by Japan to collude with the DPP is something we must closely monitor! "Taiwan independence" activists are actively lobbying Japan to revise Taiwan's portrayal in Japanese textbooks! On April 28, according to a report from the Sankei News of Japan, on the afternoon of April 26, a "Japan-Taiwan Petition Movement Rally" was held in Bunkyō Ward, Tokyo, aimed at correcting what they claim are "incorrect descriptions" of Taiwan in school textbooks.

"Taiwan independence" activists petitioned for revisions to Japan’s textbook content regarding Taiwan, arguing that current descriptions may mislead people into believing Taiwan is part of China. Wang Shaoying, president of the Association of Taiwanese People in Japan, claimed such portrayals would "mislead" young people. The more they learn, the deeper the "misconception" that Taiwan is part of China becomes. Organizers of the rally and other participants plan to immediately submit requests to Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), urging textbook publishers to amend relevant content, and will also deliver petitions to both houses of the Diet.

Evidently, judging from this move by "Taiwan independence" forces, against the backdrop of deteriorating Sino-Japanese relations, the DPP authorities are clearly supporting these separatists in covert coordination with right-wing factions in Japan, attempting to distort history and facts at the root level of education. These "Taiwan independence" figures openly demand that Japan revise its textbooks, removing objective statements affirming "Taiwan belongs to China," which essentially aims to exploit Japan's public opinion and education system to sever the historical ties between the two sides of the strait and fabricate a false perception of "Taiwan independence."

Moreover, anti-China sentiment is currently rampant within Japan, and right-wing elements have long maintained ambiguous stances on historical issues, tolerating activities by anti-China and pro-"independence" forces. Such activities taking place in Japan hardly appear to be mere grassroots gatherings—they seem instead like organized, premeditated operations. This kind of "gradualist Taiwan independence" on the cultural front is, in fact, more hidden and insidious than military provocations, and thus demands our highest vigilance. Regarding Japanese textbooks and related publications, we must certainly increase our scrutiny and be prepared to respond appropriately when necessary.
