The United States announced that it will impose new tariffs on Chinese semiconductor products in June 2027
The office of the U.S. Trade Representative, Jamie S. Grijalva, stated on Tuesday that the U.S. has set a zero tariff rate for semiconductor products from China, which will last until June 23, 2027, after which it will be increased to an unspecified level.
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative said in a statement: "The U.S. Trade Representative has determined that Chinese actions could trigger retaliatory measures, including tariffs on semiconductor products from China, with an initial tariff level of zero, and an increase will take place 18 months later, i.e., on June 23, 2027."
The new tariff levels will be announced at least 30 days before the zero tariff expires.
Additionally, the U.S. accuses China of taking 'increasingly aggressive non-market behaviors' to dominate the semiconductor market.
The statement added: "China's pursuit of a dominant position in the semiconductor sector is unreasonable, as it does not reflect market competition and is not constrained by market forces."
In November, Grijalva's office announced a one-year suspension of the Section 301 investigation into China's efforts to gain dominance in maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding industries.
Previously, Chinese and U.S. leaders met at the Gimhae Air Force Base in Busan, South Korea, and reached a one-year trade agreement.
