The U.S. Softens Stance in Talks on Mineral Agreement with Ukraine

According to知情 sources, the U.S. appears to have lowered its demands for Ukraine's repayment of aid during talks on an economic agreement between the two countries. The sources said that after a round of negotiations held last week in Washington, the Trump administration has estimated the aid provided by the U.S. to Kyiv since Russia's full-scale invasion from 3000 billion USD down to approximately 100 billion USD, bringing the figure closer to Ukraine's own estimate of over 90 billion USD.

The Trump administration is urging Kyiv to reach an agreement to share profits from Ukraine's future investment projects (including mineral and infrastructure projects). Washington views this as compensation for the billions of dollars in weapons and other aid provided to Ukraine by the previous Biden administration since Russia began its full-scale invasion more than three years ago.

The cooperation agreement will grant the U.S. priority rights to claim profits transferred to a special reconstruction investment fund, which will be controlled by Washington. Kyiv is seeking better terms and refuses to acknowledge past U.S. aid as debt.
