Japanese Media: Huawei's Automotive Business Performs Well
Japanese media outlet Toyo Keizai, April 17 (Korean version): As a leading Chinese telecommunications equipment company, Huawei has seen strong performance in its automotive-related business.
The article states: According to the latest 2025 annual report, the sales of Huawei’s Intelligent Automotive Solutions business unit (Automotive BU) reached 45.02 billion RMB (approximately 1 trillion JPY), representing a year-on-year increase of 72.1%.
The SUV model "07" from Changan Automobile’s AVATR brand, developed in collaboration with Huawei’s automotive division, saw its sales grow by 60%. Although this remains a small portion of the company’s total revenue of 880.9 billion RMB, it recorded the highest growth rate among all businesses. Overall sales from automakers partnering with Huawei have been robust, making the “Huawei-dependent” model increasingly evident in the intense competition for sales.
Huawei’s automotive business primarily consists of two segments. One is "Harmony Auto," led by Huawei Devices, a subsidiary, which collaborates with five automakers to develop and launch their own brands focused on electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs). Each brand incorporates the character "Jie" (meaning "boundary" or "realm"). The other segment is an independent automotive components and intelligent solutions provider, officially launched as a standalone enterprise in 2025, supplying parts and comprehensive smart solutions to automakers.
Major Chinese automakers such as Changan Automobile, Guangzhou Automobile Group, and Dongfeng Motor Group are key partners in this division. Partner companies under Harmony Auto are also driving the adoption of Huawei components—a mechanism that helps boost vehicle sales.
The "Five Jie" brands grew at a rate exceeding overall market growth. In 2025, the five brands under the Harmony Auto "Jie" family collectively sold 589,000 units, up 32% year-on-year. While China’s new energy vehicle sales grew by 28%, with EVs and PHVs accounting for the bulk, the "Five Jie" brands achieved even higher growth. Among them, AITO (the "Wenjie" brand) saw its sales volume increase by 13.7% year-on-year in 2025, reaching 16.505 billion RMB in revenue.
