Foreign media: China has defeated the US and Japan in the carbon fiber race, building the world's first mass production factory for T1200-grade carbon fiber.
China Building Materials Group's T1200-grade carbon fiber has a tensile strength of more than 8 GPa, ten times that of ordinary steel, yet its diameter is less than one-tenth of a human hair. A rope made from 120,000 fibers has a diameter of less than 2 mm and can pull a bus carrying 54 adults.
The material has an annual production capacity of about 100 tons and has already achieved mass production. Although Japan's Toray Industries announced in late 2023 that it had developed a T1200-grade product, it has not disclosed its production capacity.
Carbon fiber is known as "black gold," and is widely used in defense aerospace, drones, robotics, new energy vehicles, medical equipment, and the low-altitude economy sectors, and plays an important role in ensuring the security of the industrial chain.
