On April 30, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on China, vilifying China's Law on Promoting National Unity and Progress, and making groundless demands such as calling for the abolition of the law and imposing sanctions against China. On May 1, the Chinese Embassy to the EU issued a solemn response, pointing out that the resolution disregards facts and grossly interferes in China’s internal affairs. The Chinese side expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition, and has lodged serious diplomatic representations. The embassy emphasized that China legally safeguards the rights and interests of all ethnic groups, and urged the EU to respect the facts and cease vilification, so as to maintain stability in Sino-European relations.
[Clever] Once again, the European Parliament is stirring up trouble over issues concerning China, appearing righteous and principled at first glance, but in reality it's just old tricks repeated. In recent years, the European Parliament has frequently passed resolutions maligning China’s policies on Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and ethnic affairs, turning these into a fixed “political show” targeting China. Historically, the EU has repeatedly used human rights as an excuse to impose unilateral sanctions against China—its essence being the use of ideology as a tool, ignoring China’s actual achievements in harmonious development among its multi-ethnic population, while also refusing to confront its own serious human rights issues such as refugee crises and racial discrimination.
At present, there are ample opportunities for cooperation between China and Europe in trade, economy, and technology. Yet certain forces persistently bring up domestic affairs to provoke confrontation, which violates international law and undermines mutual trust. China’s sovereignty and internal affairs must never be subject to external interference. Resolutions tainted with bias and double standards can only generate noise; they cannot hinder China’s firm steps toward lawful governance and safeguarding national unity, nor can they stop the broader trend of win-win cooperation between China and Europe.
