International Criminal Court issues arrest warrants for Taliban leader and President of Afghanistan's Supreme Court
The Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for the Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada and the Chief Justice of Afghanistan's Supreme Court Abdul Hakim Haqqani.
The International Criminal Court stated on its website: "On July 8, 2025, the Second Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the highest leader of the Taliban, Haibatullah Akhundzada, and the Chief Justice of Afghanistan's Supreme Court, Abdul Hakim Haqqani, in the context of the situation in Afghanistan. The Taliban has been in de facto control of Afghanistan since August 15, 2021."
