Shahin, head of the Taliban's political office in Qatar and Afghanistan's ambassador to Qatar, told Sputnik that other countries might follow Russia's example and recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and its government in the coming weeks or months.

Earlier, Russia's special envoy for Afghanistan, Kablov, told Sputnik that Russia had officially recognized the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

When asked if there were any reports indicating that other countries might follow Russia's lead in recognizing the Afghan government, Shahin replied, "It is possible. Perhaps we will hear good news in the coming weeks or months."

Shahin said, "This recognition opens up prospects for cooperation, and I encourage other countries to follow Russia's example."

Shahin thanked Russian President Putin and the Russian government for "this timely and rational decision."
