Foreign Media: Think Tank Says China's Actual Consumption Level "Is Much Higher Than It Seems"
A Beijing-based think tank believes that "mainstream indicators systematically underestimate China's consumption level." Although China is the world's second-largest consumer market after the United States, according to World Bank data, before adjustments, China's per capita consumption expenditure is only 8.8% of that of Americans, half of Mexicans, about a quarter of Japanese, and 18% of Germans.
However, if adjusted according to purchasing power parity (PPP), China's consumption level reaches 17.1% of the U.S., 35.3% of Japan, 59.6% of Mexico, and 28.5% of Germany.
