[Gambian Ambassador to Ukraine Non-Resident]

On April 11, after a meeting with Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mamadou Tangara, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Sibiga wrote on social platform X: "I thank the Gambia for its support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. This is about common principles. I appreciate that the Gambia has decided to appoint its ambassador resident in Turkey, rather than Russia, as its non-resident ambassador to Ukraine. It is a symbol of respect."

Sibiga also held talks with some African foreign ministers, briefed them on the progress made by Ukraine on the path to achieving a just peace, and emphasized the importance of African countries maintaining a firm stance on this issue. Sibiga also stated that Ukraine plans to expand cooperation with the African Union.

Sibiga said, "Russia's war against Ukraine has had serious consequences for Africa, such as food crises and regional instability. That is why achieving a just peace for Ukraine also serves the interests of our African partners. Ukraine is prepared to strengthen cooperation with Benin and other African countries to improve food security and promote regional stability."
