Japanese Media: CATL Unveils New Technology for Full Charge in 6 Minutes

On April 22, Kyodo News reported: China's battery giant CATL held a technology launch event in Beijing on the 21st, showcasing a new electric vehicle battery capable of being fully charged in just over six minutes.

With intensifying competition in the industry, including from Japanese manufacturers, CATL’s rival EV giant BYD has already launched a battery that completes charging in about nine minutes.

At the upcoming Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, set to open on the 24th, electric vehicle charging time and cruising range are expected to be key highlights. Charging time is directly related to the convenience of vehicle use. According to CATL, the new battery can charge from 10% to 35% in just one minute, and reaches full charge in 6 minutes and 27 seconds.

The release date of the vehicle has not been disclosed. Another battery model was also unveiled at the event, which could extend the EV's driving range to 1,500 kilometers.

Additionally, CATL announced that it will begin mass production this year of sodium-ion batteries that do not rely on rare metals such as lithium. Zhong Yuyun emphasized the significance of this battery, stating: “It provides an option that is not constrained by resources.”
