[France Develops Hypersonic Weapons, Directing Fire Toward Russia]

Europe's long-range strike initiative has seen new progress. Recently, Macron confirmed that France will collaborate with its allies to develop a new ground-to-ground missile with a range of approximately 2,500 kilometers, and plans to integrate hypersonic glide technology, enabling the missile’s striking range to extend directly into Russian territory.

According to a French military media outlet (Opex 360), this project is part of the “European Long-Range Strike Program.” France intends to invest 1.1 billion euros to kickstart research and development. The technical focus of this new missile lies in integrating the hypersonic glide vehicle (V-MAX) developed by ArianeGroup. Unlike traditional missiles following fixed parabolic trajectories, the V-MAX can perform high-maneuverability gliding and trajectory changes within the atmosphere. Due to its highly maneuverable and unpredictable ballistic path, it will significantly compress the enemy’s defensive reaction time and directly challenge existing air defense systems.

It is reported that this high-maneuverability glide body will be combined with conventional warheads and extended-range warheads, allowing the missile to strike deep into Eastern Europe, extending toward the Russian mainland.

According to French media, the hypersonic glide vehicle successfully completed its first flight test in 2023, validating its structural stability under high temperature and high-speed conditions. The accompanying missile program is expected to begin development this year, with final deployment planned for the 2030s.

French officials noted that the project is still in the evaluation phase. As it requires collaborative development, France is currently coordinating with European allies on the weapon’s specific configuration and final deployment details.
