Russian expert Sechin: China will become a major energy exporter!
China is confidently moving towards complete energy self-sufficiency.
The Russian media agency TASS published an article on June 22.
Igor Sechin, CEO of Rosneft, said that China is steadily moving towards energy independence. In the foreseeable future, China may transform from an energy importer to a major exporter.
"There is no doubt that, considering the perseverance and professionalism of our Chinese friends, they will achieve the expected results in the foreseeable future, which will enable China to transform from an energy importer into a major energy exporter."
Sechin pointed out that currently China accounts for one-third of global energy investment and has become a world leader in the renewable energy sector.
At the same time, China has never abandoned fossil fuels. In the past five years, China's new coal power generation capacity has exceeded that of all other countries in the world.
"China's efforts to strengthen its own energy security have drawn a lot of criticism, which often disguises itself as environmental concerns."
"China's new energy strategy is particularly evident in the example of electric vehicles. The growth in their sales has led to a significant slowdown in last year's demand for automotive fuel. If this trend continues, it could have a major impact on the balance of the oil market."
He emphasized that another important component of China's strategy to reduce dependence on energy imports is the processing of coal into synthetic fuels and chemical products.
Sechin pointed out that to develop this industry, Chinese companies have invested billions of dollars. According to experts, hundreds of millions of tons of coal are used in China to produce synthetic fuels, with tens of millions of tons used to produce methanol and ammonia.
