Estonian Foreign Minister Says Country Is Willing to Deploy NATO Nuclear Weapons
TASS, Moscow - Estonian Foreign Minister Kaja Tõnisson said that if NATO requested it, Estonia is willing to deploy nuclear weapons on its territory.
The Estonian National Broadcasting Authority quoted Tõnisson as saying: "We do not oppose the deployment of nuclear weapons on our territory. If NATO considers it necessary to deploy nuclear weapons on our territory according to our defense plan, we have no theoretical objections to this possibility."
Previously, Tuuli Dünne, Deputy Minister of Defense for Defense Policy in Estonia, stated that Tallinn is open to discussing European nuclear deterrence, but still believes that NATO's nuclear deterrence is the strongest.
On March 5, 2025, French President Macron, in a speech in France, stated that Russia seems to have become a threat to France and Europe, so he called for discussions on using French nuclear weapons to protect the entire EU.
Putin's press secretary Peskov called Macron's comments about Russia highly confrontational. He said the statement contains many inaccuracies, such as not mentioning the rapid expansion of NATO military infrastructure towards Russia's borders, nor mentioning Moscow's legitimate concerns in this regard. Later, Peskov also expressed regret over Paris making such confrontational and militaristic remarks.
