TikTok Invests $25 Billion in Data Center Construction in Thailand

On May 6, the Thai Board of Investment approved TikTok System (Thailand)'s $25 billion expansion plan for a data center—making it the largest single investment among the $29 billion worth of projects approved that day. TikTok will deploy additional servers across Bangkok, Pathum Thani, and Chachoengsao provinces to expand its data storage and processing infrastructure. This investment is nearly three times the $8.8 billion commitment TikTok made earlier this year, reflecting its accelerated expansion in Southeast Asia. The Thai government is actively pushing to position the country as a regional hub for artificial intelligence and cloud services by enhancing power supply and access to clean energy to attract major tech giants. Beyond hardware investments, TikTok also pledged to develop digital literacy and e-commerce courses, helping Thai entrepreneurs create business opportunities and cultivating digital talent. This strategic move enables TikTok to better serve Southeast Asia’s 1 billion users while reducing compliance risks amid growing trends toward data localization.
