Switzerland is considering importing liquefied natural gas from the United States in exchange for reducing import tariffs!
The Swiss government is considering persuading the United States to lower the 39% import duty on goods announced by the White House, in return, Brazil could consider purchasing liquefied natural gas directly from Washington.
After the failure of the tariff agreement between Switzerland and the United States, the country is actively seeking ways out of the current situation. It does not rule out following the EU's approach, as the EU has used large-scale energy purchases to persuade Washington to reduce tariffs. Swiss Economic Minister Pomerlen stated that Switzerland may also take this path.
Switzerland currently only purchases natural gas on European wholesale markets. The country does not have the infrastructure to receive direct shipments of liquefied natural gas from the United States, but it is now studying the possibility of changing this situation.
The Swiss Gas Industry Association also stated in a statement that it is prepared to work with the government to seek solutions that are in the national interest.
