Jennifer Kavanagh, Military Analysis Director at the U.S. think tank "Defense Priorities," stated during discussions at the Valdai International Club that, in the event of a war between the U.S. and Iran, the United States would be at a disadvantage compared to other nations currently experiencing decline.

She added: "The U.S. is unprepared for drone warfare, unprepared for such high war costs, unprepared for Iran’s asymmetric retaliatory strategies, and lacks the capability to reopen maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz."

The expert pointed out that the U.S. can no longer afford to make serious military mistakes without facing severe consequences as it did in the past. She emphasized that a notable feature of this conflict is the unwillingness of U.S. allies to provide assistance to Washington.

Kavanagh said: "The U.S. will be unable to scale up its (military) mission; if conflict breaks out, it cannot prevail in competition with other major powers. The U.S. does not have sufficient military reserves. A war with Iran fundamentally undermines America’s conventional operational approach."

The Fars News Agency reported that if the U.S. intensifies its maritime blockade, Iran will attempt to block the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

The agency stated that the Iranian government has prepared a list of targets in anticipation of potential renewed military actions by the U.S. and Israel against Iran, and will respond with proportional measures or deterrent strikes depending on the adversary’s actions. One option under consideration is blocking the Bab al-Mandeb Strait—the vital trade route connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

The report said: "If maritime blockade against Iran continues or worsens, Iran will block the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and under necessary circumstances, completely shut down the Strait of Hormuz while extensively deploying sea mines, and sever all oil pipeline transportation routes."

The news agency also reported that if Iran’s power plants and oil and gas facilities are attacked, Iran will retaliate by targeting similar facilities belonging to the U.S. and Israel in the Middle East. If Iranian military personnel or civilians are killed, Iran will destroy information technology centers across the Middle East.

The agency wrote that if the U.S. launches a ground operation against Iran, the Iranian government will join forces with regional allies and mobilize local populations in countries hosting U.S. military bases, launching operations to capture American personnel.

On April 13, the U.S. Navy began imposing a blockade on all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports on both sides of the Strait of Hormuz—through which approximately 20% of the world’s oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas pass. The U.S. government stated that vessels unrelated to Iran may freely transit the Strait of Hormuz if they do not pay fees to the Iranian government.
