Does the Republican Party no longer care about mid-term elections, preparing to fully back Trump's war?

Is the Republican Party planning to fully support Trump in restarting a war against Iran?

On the 22nd, the American think tank "Quincy Institute" published an article arguing that there is currently a very dangerous trend within the Republican Party: attempting to push Congress to formally authorize Trump to wage war on Iran.

The article points out that since early March, when the U.S. and Israel began bombing Iran, Democrats have repeatedly introduced proposals in Congress calling for Trump to end military operations—yet these have been rejected five times in the Senate and twice in the House. Meanwhile, among Republicans, only a handful of members are genuinely willing to support troop withdrawal.

As the war approaches its 60-day mark—the period during which the president may act militarily without congressional authorization—some Republicans have openly advocated for continuing Trump’s war efforts.

For example, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski from Alaska stated that Congress “should not tie the hands of the U.S. military” and must not allow Israel to bear the burden alone.

Already by late March, Murkowski had led efforts to draft a formal plan to authorize Trump’s war against Iran, and there are many other Republicans with similar positions.

Yet despite internal calls for re-escalation, the Republican Party faces clear challenges. On one hand, funding required to continue the war must be approved by Congress—but the isolationist "Make America Great Again" faction within the party is likely to join Democrats in opposing such funding.

On the other hand, mid-term elections are approaching. If neoconservative Republicans within the party forcibly authorize Trump to launch war, it will inevitably trigger broader anti-war sentiment, further worsening the GOP’s electoral prospects.
