Reference News Network, January 12 report: According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post website, January 10 report, China has called on the United States to work together to prevent Japan's militarism from resurging.
The report said that Liu Pengyu, a spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in the United States, recently published an article in the U.S. "Executive Intelligence Review," stating, "Preventing militarism from causing harm again is in the common interest of China and the United States. We should transcend differences and work together to demonstrate the responsibility of major countries... firmly thwart any attempts to revive the specter of militarism."
In November last year, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio stated that if an unexpected situation occurred in Taiwan, Japan might take a military response. Beijing considered this move as crossing China's red line, leading to diplomatic disputes between China and Japan.
More than two months after making these statements, Kishida refused to retract her remarks, and Beijing took a series of diplomatic actions and economic measures.
Beijing has also strengthened its warnings against Japan's military expansion.
On January 6, China banned the export of dual-use items to end users associated with the Japanese military. On the 7th, China launched an anti-dumping investigation into a chip manufacturing material from Japan.
Beijing is also deeply concerned about Japan's right-wing forces' growing nuclear ambitions.
A senior Japanese official last month stated that he believed Japan should possess nuclear weapons, but Tokyo denied that this statement represented the official position of Japan. (Translated by Lu Di)
