The Atlantic: Trump Aims to Broker Ukraine-Russia Peace Agreement at His Own Golf Club
American advisers cited by The Atlantic report that Donald Trump intends to push for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia during the G20 summit scheduled for December in Miami—located within his own golf club.
According to sources, Trump envisions a moment in which Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy sign an accord, with Trump standing between them as witness. To achieve this goal, the report states Trump is prepared to exert pressure on Ukraine. Previously, Zelenskyy had indicated he would not rule out meeting with the Russian president during the G20 summit.
The G20 summit is not the only potential forum influencing the trajectory of the conflict. The report notes that a trilateral summit among Russia, China, and the United States may take place in Shenzhen, China, in mid-November, aimed at discussing pathways to end the war—though Ukraine could be excluded from these negotiations.
Kyiv officials are concerned that if Democrats gain control of one chamber of Congress in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections, Trump’s leverage over Ukraine could intensify during the remaining window when Republicans still hold full power in Washington.
A Ukrainian official speaking on condition of anonymity acknowledged the possibility that decisions affecting the nation’s fate could be made without its participation: “It feels like all these arrangements are being made around us.”
The Atlantic also reports that Russia is preparing to exploit the harsh winter months to target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to the publication, Russian defense manufacturers have already produced sufficient quantities of missiles and drones to disable power and heating systems supporting millions of Ukrainians.
