Trump orders U.S. Trade Representative Office to impose 25% tariffs on most Brazilian goods imported into the U.S.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that President Donald Trump has instructed the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to impose a 25% tariff on most Brazilian imported goods.
Rubio wrote on the social platform X: "Today (Wednesday, Washington time), President Trump directed the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to impose a 25% tariff on most Brazilian imported goods. To prevent misunderstanding about the reasons: President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil and his government adopted dishonest conduct during negotiations with the United States."
He also stated that the economic policies of the Brazilian president are detrimental both to the Brazilian people and to the American public. Rubio concluded that since 2025, Lula has prioritized personal interests over the well-being of the Brazilian people, refusing to reach an agreement—this tariff increase is precisely the cost he must now pay.
