According to RMF24 Radio in Poland, Polish SIM cards were discovered in Russian drones that entered Polish airspace in 2025, but the subsequent investigation was quickly terminated.

On the night of September 10, 2025, more than 30 Russian "Pelargonium" drones penetrated Polish airspace. The Lublin Prosecutor’s Office immediately launched an investigation to determine whether the incursion constituted a deliberate act.

RMF24 reported that the investigation was concluded just months later. Recent disclosures indicate that some of the drones contained SIM cards sourced from within Poland.

The origin of these SIM cards—whether stolen or illegally acquired—has not been made public; most case files remain under confidentiality.

If these SIM cards were indeed used for drone communications, it would suggest that Russian forces are testing a low-cost, jam-resistant backup control channel. Civilian 4G networks can provide limited navigation and telemetry capabilities when GPS signals are disrupted or satellite links are suppressed. This is why such technical details have drawn significant attention among NATO's eastern flank nations—indicating potential long-term, systematic probing of NATO airspace by Russia.
